Breast Augmentation: Implants Vs. Fat Injections

By Rena Graham

When it comes to improving breast size and shape there are two options that have been the constant choice of a lot of women. One is the common and widely used are breast implants, and the other are fat injections, which is also a slowly growing option for women. So which one is a better choice? Let us tackle these one by one to see which one is suitable to your preferences.

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure where an implant, either silicone or saline, is inserted within the breast tissues. With all these celebrities getting their cup sizes increased, we can see that this surgery creates significant improvement in a woman’s physique.

Fat injections, on the other hand, is a relatively new procedure in increasing breast size minus the level of invasiveness posed by implants. It answers the dilemma of transferring excessive fats in one area of the body to the breast. It no longer needs any foreign material, but rather it uses the person’s own fat to add more volume to the breast. It has shown to create some improvement in breast size and form.

Breast augmentation has been around for years and its many successful cases can vouch for its effectiveness. And several techniques are also available to more effectively create a desirable outcome. Fat injections also require the careful judgment of the surgeon to ensure that uniformity and smoothness are achieved. Even though it is a much simpler procedure compared to breast implants, it also needs certain techniques to make it come out aesthetically pleasing.

When it comes to how long it can be effective to improve breast size, implants can take years before replacement has to be made. Although there have been incidences of leakage and ruptures, but generally breast implants are known to last long. Fat injections can only last for several months because the injected fat eventually dissolves therefore requiring frequent touch-ups.

For women who want to create a dramatic change in their breast size, implants would be a preferable option. With the different cup sizes that can be made possible, it is certain that a woman can get that voluptuousness she wants.

But with fat transfer, the results are not as striking compared to its counterpart. First the woman must have enough fat to make really some changes in the chest. Second, this procedure is not really intended for increasing the breast size but rather it is done to fill in any indentations or unevenness in the chest or to reconstruct the breast after cancer surgery.

However the reason why fat injections continue to increase in popularity is because of the lack of invasiveness, the idea of removing stubborn fats and transferring these to an area where it would suit best, and the fact that it can heal faster.

But some would question why despite the benefits that one can gets from fat injections, why has not it caught up with breast implants? The reasons for this are that fat injections are not the ‘gold standard’ in practice in breast augmentation. Breast implants remain to be the main and trusted method in enhancing the breast form. But for those women who are not keen on the idea of having to put foreign materials into the body, fat injections can be a good option.
