Acura continues to do well even in this time of economic struggle. It’s already well known that Acura’s vehicles are based on platform cars by Honda. This gives them the solid reliability of a Honda. Acura is also well known for high scores in the areas of comfort, price, safety and resale value.
Acura ZDX
Although it doesn’t look anything like the Honda Accord Crosstour, the Acura ZDX is actually a crossover based on the Accord’s platform. Its panormic roof spans the whole length of the passenger cabin of the vehicle. The swept rear end and the hidden rear door handles give the ZDX a sporty look.
The fast back design of the Acura ZDX allows for more cubic storage space and more head room, making the entire interior feel very roomy. Luxurious leather abounds and bathes the occupants in comfort. The center navigation console and brushed aluminum trim give the ZDX the look and feel of a modern car. In fact, it perfectly complements the exterior.
A smooth 3.7 liter V6 engine, which produces 300 horse power lurks under the hood of the Acura ZDX. A 6 speed auto transmission is on hand, complete with paddle shifters if needed. Acura’s Super Handling All Wheel Drive, or SH-AWD for short, completes the package. The car’s computer controlled system is able to route torque to whichever individual wheels need it at any time. The ZDX is packed with safety features including stability and traction control which aid in rollover protection. Fuel economy checks in at 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Price for the new Acura ZDX start at $45K.
Acura TSX
Changes for the new Acura TSX are fairly small, since it was completely redesigned for last year’s model. New for this year is the addition of a V-6 engine. The standard 4 cylinder engine is still offered, but the V-6 can be had for $5500 over the base price. $5K is a bit pricey for the 3.5 liter V-6 engine. It produces 254 lb-fot of torque and 280 horsepower, but at that price, you might choose to stick with the standard 4 cylinder. Once you’ve shelled out the price for the upgrade to get the V-6, you’re in the price range for the Acura TL, which is a better car all around. Also, the V-6 available in the TSX puts out 20 horsepower less than the comparable engine in the TL and the ZDX. The base price for the Acura TSX with the 4 cylinder engine is $35K. Add the V-6 and it starts at over $40K.
Acura TL
The Acura TL was also recently redesigned but for this year the super luxury car gets sporty upgrades. First is the new manual 6-speed transmission, available only with the all wheel drive system. The two together offer some serious handling capability and driving fun. Weighing in at 100 lbs less than the automatic transmission, the 6-speed manual makes the car lighter. Also, with the loss of the automatic transmission so goes the torque converter. This is the ideal situation for Acura’s SH-AWD system to show its best. These new enhancements combine a comfortable luxury sedan into a fun to drive, corner hugging performance automobile. Base price is $39k.
